Season 2- National Finals 2019 | F1 in Schools India

The second season of F1 in Schools India, the World’s largest STEM challenge for students between 9-19 years of age, comes to an end today with its finale at Amity University Campus, Sector – 125, Noida. This is an initiative that is supported worldwide, in which groups of 3-6 students are expected to design and manufacture a miniature car out of the official F1 model block using CAD/CAM design tools. The cars are powered by CO2 cylinders and are tied to the track with a nylon wire.

1.        Winning Team 1 – Orion Racing, Scottish High International School, Gurgaon

2.        Winning Team 2 – Matadors, Amity International School, Saket

3.        Winning Team 3 –  Stallion, The British School, New Delhi

The winning teams carry the credit of representing India at the World Finals in November 2019 where teams from 49 countries will compete for the title, slated to take place at Abu Dhabi.

To felicitate the winning teams, present were Mr. Yashraj Singh, In-Country Chief for F1 in Schools India.

Mr. Andrew Denford is the Founder – F1 in Schools, global. His 2 sons – Joeseph and Oscar Denford were present at the Grand Finale to support the India chapter.  Present amongst other dignified guests were – Mr. Anirban Bhattacharya, Seth M.R. Jaipuria Schools, Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice President & India Country Manager at NXP Semiconductors, Mr. Nitin Khetarpal, Vice President, Institutional Services at Center for Career Development, Mr. Arjun Bahadur, Assistant Director – Business Development and partnership.

Mr. Yashraj Singh said, ‘When the India chapter of F1 in Schools was formed, we had not perceived such an overwhelming response and participation from all over India. We are thrilled to see so much latent talent in these teenagers. It was an adrenalin rush to see the participants learning from this unique competition and innovating themselves to be ready for future challenges. From banging their brains to design their cars to learning of how to get brand associations and promote themselves through marketing. It is not just about this day. It takes one full year of preparations to compete.’

F1 in Schools concluded its second season after a vast regional round which included schools from Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi NCR. 80 teams qualified for the finale from across the above mentioned regions.

The competition is currently operational in over 45 countries and was first introduced in 1999 in UK. The aim here is to introduce young students to engineering and entrepreneurship in a fun experimental way.
